Parker’s Piece and the University Arms have been the loci for great feasts and celebrations throughout Cambridge’s history — now augmented by an £80 million renovation project, completed in 2018.

The same celebratory spirit that brought 15,000 people onto the green for Queen Victoria’s Coronation in 1838 remains to this day — whether a graduation party in Parker’s Tavern, a board meeting in the library, or a wedding reception in the Ballroom.

“I drink to the general joy o’ th’ whole table”

Macbeth, William Shakespeare

The Function Room

272 sq m | Capacity 70 / 96 / 200

Few halls in Cambridge can compete with the grandeur, elegance and history of the University Arms Ballroom. It is designed for parties, weddings and large events, seating 180 guests - and up to 200 standing.

It’s a space that can also shrink to fit more intimate events. A solid oak partitioning wall divides the Ballroom into our Crick and Watson Rooms. The Crick Room comprises the space’s west side, seating up to 96. The smaller Watson Room has seating for up to 70 guests.

Parker's Tavern

145.5 sq m

A private event at Parker’s Tavern combines the gravitas of an historic Cambridge institution re-designed by the Queen’s architect, John Simpson, with a modern lightness of touch by Swedish-born interior designer, Martin Brudnizki.

Press launches, private lunches, graduation celebrations - Parker’s Tavern accommodates each occasion with a cultured aesthetic that belies our heritage, paired with a feasting menu created by chef Tristan Welch.

Events planning

Our events team know what it takes to put on an event that is grand in scale yet personal in the details. We tailor our spaces to every function, so the rooms never feel crowded or hollow.
Every aspect of your function will be finely honed, from the personally crafted menu by Tristan Welch to the bespoke silverware on the tables. We specialise in events that deliver extravagance without pomposity, like the University Arms itself.

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all of our guests returning to University Arms.

We are delighted to have you with us, and believe we have put exceptional measures in place to offer you, and our team, safety and security during your stay, while not compromising on hospitality.

For those of you still undecided, Cambridge is the perfect autumnal spot to escape to, with green spaces, the glorious river Cam, bike rides to Grantchester, or curling up in our cosy library with a good book and an even better drink.

Most of our reservations are flexible, meaning you can book with confidence and know that should the worse happen and you cannot come to Cambridge, you will not be held accountable to pay for the room. All we ask is for 24 hours notice before your arrival day. Please do refer to the terms and conditions of your reservations, where we will clearly indicate, the cancellation policy.

I look forward to meeting you all.

Ian James, General Manager
