The Cambridge University American Stage Tour (CAST) present Julius Caesar in the ballroom of University Arms.
After a wonderful showing in Trinity Chapel in June, CAST are very excited to be bringing Julius Caesar to University Arms Ballroom this August; a space that feels so perfectly fitting for the show and one that they cannot wait to transform. The Cambridge University American Stage Tour (CAST) was established in 2000, and since has endeavoured to take a piece of Shakespeare across to schools and educational venues on the East Coast every September. And yet, they simply couldn't leave without stopping off in Cambridge first.
A note from Imogen Gray (the Director):
I am interested in the idea of stripping the play back to its essence and focus on drawing out the rich complexities of the characters in a compelling world, offering audiences an insight into a reality that feels close to our own and resonant, while also providing an alternate reality to escape into. I am eager to explore the potential for Julius Caesar to engage audiences in a dialogue about leadership, democracy, and the consequences of political machinations. Nick Hytner’s 2017/18 production at the Bridge Theatre took this approach, harnessing the play's potent themes and adapting them to the nuances of contemporary society, and I am keen to look at if, and how, our view of the play may have changed in 2024.
This production is suitable for ages 12 and over.
