Chess players come from far and wide for Cambridge International Open Chess Tournament

Cambridge Independent.

Beginning on February 15 and running until Sunday (February 19), this is one of the most sought-after chess events in England. With only 121 places available, there were more than 50 people on the waiting list hoping to play. There are 19 different federations taking part, with players coming from as far away as the USA and Vietnam.

Most of the players come from England, with 93 out of the 121 being from the host nation. Leading the charge and top seed is Michael Adams, the England number one for many years. Michael was one of only three players to get a draw in round one, which just goes to show the strength of the players gathered.
