BOOK LAUNCH: The Island of Missing Trees Wednesday 4 August | 7.00pm BST Live in Cambridge & Online

We are delighted to host the launch event for one of the most eagerly anticipated novels of the summer. The Island of Missing Trees is a beautiful tale of exile and forbidden love between two teenagers from opposite sides of a divided land, one Greek Cypriot the other Turkish Cypriot, who flee to London with a smuggled branch from the fig tree that grows in their local taverna. Festival Honorary Patron Elif Shafak is an award-winning British-Turkish novelist whose work has been translated into 55 languages. She is the author of 19 books, 12 of which are novels, and a bestselling author around the world. Her last novel 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in this Strange World was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and RSL Ondaatje Prize; longlisted for the Dublin Literary Award; and chosen as Blackwell's Book of the Year. Her previous novel, The Forty Rules of Love was chosen by the BBC as one of 100 Novels That Shaped Our World.

Join us for an enchanting evening in the company of one of the world's finest writers. Elif Shafak will be in conversation with Erica Wagner. Signed copies of the book will be available to purchase at the event. This event will be held with Covid-19 safety measures in place. Tickets are also available to attend online for those unable to attend in-person.
