Spend a creative Saturday exploring the natural world through printmaking in this intimate, hands-on workshop. The day begins with a gentle, immersive walk through the garden, where you will have time to look closely at the plants growing there and select some of its flora to work with. You will also have a glimpse inside David Parr House, discovering its richly patterned interiors and taking inspiration from the floral designs found throughout the house.
Artist Caroline Wendling will guide you through an environmentally friendly printing process with roots in botanical history. Once used by botanists to record and study plant life, this ancient method of nature printing is regarded as a precursor to photography.
Inspired by the decorative floral patterns of David Parr House, you will experiment with plant material and monoprinting techniques to explore shape, texture, composition and pattern. Using your observations from the garden and house alongside your own sense of design, you will create a series of distinctive nature prints that capture the forms and details of the plants you have gathered.
