When thinking of Cambridge for your British staycation this summer, please do take inspiration from our Concierge’s recommended two day visit to our medieval city.

Day 1

After arriving at University Arms, guests can leave their bags with us and meet our resident walking-tour guide – Anthony Rodgers, Life Fellow at the University of Cambridge’s Hughes Hall. Anthony and his team of former academics are true fonts of knowledge, and their enthusiasm is inspirational.

Anthony will organise a historic walking tour of Cambridge, from its foundation in 1209 to its current status as a world-renowned centre of scientific excellence. You will hear many curious and fantastical tales of espionage, miraculous Eureka! moments, and everything in between.

Then hop on to the University Arms punt to enjoy a picnic by Chef Patron, Tristan Welch, that our Concierge will deliver to you for a lazy float down the River Cam.

Head back to University Arms to refresh, have pre-dinner cocktails in the bar at Parker’s Tavern, beforing moving into our brasserie restaurant and feasting on Chef Tristan’s modern-British classics for supper, followed by a nightcap in our Library.

After your delicious taste of Cambridge, borrow a book from our collection and head off to your gloriusly comfortable bed to lose yourself in between the pages.

Day 2

After a hearty breakfast in Parker’s Tavern – or in bed! – hop on a University Arms bicycle to cycle down to the University of Cambridge Botanic Garden, home to beautiful plantings of more than 8,000 species from around the globe.

After lunch (we recommend Fitzbillies – be sure to try one of its famous Chelsea Buns), you can explore the Fitzwilliam Museum, with its world-renowned collection of more than half a million beautiful works of art – including masterpiece paintings and historical artifacts – or visit Kettle’s Yard, the University of Cambridge’s gallery of contemporary and modern art.

In the evening you can dine with us, ordering room service or enjoying the buzz of Parker’s Tavern; head into the city to one of its many excellent restaurants; or – for something even more atmospheric – our Concierge can arrange for private dining at one of Cambridge’s historic college dining halls.

Day 3

Have breakfast with us to set you up for the day before checking-out and heading home with an active mind and refreshed and rested body.
