In 1637, a young preacher named John Harvard settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with his young wife. He was an alumnus of Emmanuel College Cambridge, UK. After his death the small theological seminary he had helped found in his new American hometown was renamed Harvard College.

Today, just like Cambridge University, Harvard is one of the world’s most prestigious universities. But contributions between the Cambridges have flowed both ways across the Atlantic.  on Cambridge Road, a 15-minute drive from the University Arms, is a reminder of the sacrifices American Servicemen made for British freedom during the Second World War.
